Made from Pandan “Sarakat”. Pandan plants are called “screw pines” due to its spiny leaves that closely resembles those of the pineapple and which arise from the stems in cork screw fashion. There are 40 known species of Pandan in the Philippines. Few of these have economic values while others are simply grown as ornamental.
The weavers were formally organized in 2006 with 5 women members. They were named as Sarakat Movers but in 2007 they changed it to Sta. Praxedes Weavers Association. They were strengthened and sustained thru training and capacity building activities on the various aspects of weaving industry thru DOST and other government agencies.
